Earlier this year, inspiration struck! A newspaper article sparked an idea. With my expertise, I decided to launch a unique startup: The Leather Laundry, a dedicated leather cleaning service.

After six months of hard work, we finally launched TLL. Excitement filled me as I envisioned conquering this niche market. However, I soon faced unexpected challenges!

The First Challenge

My first order arrived: a pair of beloved Nike sneakers. A young customer entrusted these shoes to us. Unfortunately, they had been to a local cobbler before, resulting in a disaster. Dark shoe polish had turned the light brown leather into a muddy black mess. A disheartening scuff mark added to the damage. The customer was devastated and had hidden the shoes away.

The Color Conundrum

TLL took action! We retrieved the sneakers and uncovered a faded tan color beneath the grime. Our technician faced a significant hurdle: color matching. This task turned out to be surprisingly complex. Colors look different under various lights. For example, tan appears brown under yellow light, orange in daylight, and chocolate brown under fluorescent lights.

Next, we faced more complications. Did the customer want a single color or a two-tone restoration? We exchanged many pictures, showcasing different color options. Finally, we reached a decision.

Prepping the shoes was our next challenge. We needed to prevent color bleeding after restoration. Unfortunately, the fixative coat changed the shoe’s original feel and finish. Therefore, we had to carefully restore the texture. It was crucial to ensure the edges regained their original tan color.

A Story of Perseverance

After much effort, the sneakers were perfectly restored and ready for delivery. The joy of a happy customer made the journey worthwhile. However, this was just the beginning.
